October 19th, 2025 - John 14:15-31 - Alone

Discussion Questions

1. What’s the longest you’ve every gone without talking to anyone? How did it feel to be alone for that long?

2. If you were stranded alone on a deserted island and could bring 3 items with, what would you bring? (No boats, airplanes, or teleportation devices)

3. Have you ever asked the question, “Where are you, God?” What were the circumstances that led you to feeling alone?

4. Why do you think that before Jesus talked about giving the Holy Spirit he said, “If you love me, obey my commandments.”?

5. How does loving others help us feel less alone or more connected to God?

6. In John 14:27 Jesus tells his disciples that he’s going to leave them with a gift – peace of mind and heart. In some ways these words can feel empty – similar to a person telling you, “I’ll pray for you”, when you are going through a hard time. But what is different about the peace that Jesus gives us? How does it manifest itself?

7. What are some ways that you can remind yourself (and others) that God is with you, especially when you feel lonely or afraid?

8. How does knowing that the Holy Spirit is always with us change the way we live and make decisions each day?
