Discussion Questions

1. Have you ever planted something like a tree, flower, or garden? What did you learn about how it grows? 

2. Count how many times the word “remain” or “abide” occurs in John 15. What happens when we remain in Christ and what happens when we don’t?

3. What does it mean to remain/abide in Christ?

4. What does the “fruit” in a Christian’s life look like?

5. Why is it so important to understand that we didn’t choose God, but God chose us?

6. What does it look like to “love each other”?

7. What does being filled with joy look like for a Christian? How can Paul write “our hearts ache, but we always have joy” (2 Corinthians 6:10)

8. What is there in your life that needs to be “pruned” for you to bear fruit?

October 19th, 2025 - John 14:15-31 - Alone

Discussion Questions

1. What’s the longest you’ve every gone without talking to anyone? How did it feel to be alone for that long?

2. If you were stranded alone on a deserted island and could bring 3 items with, what would you bring? (No boats, airplanes, or teleportation devices)

3. Have you ever asked the question, “Where are you, God?” What were the circumstances that led you to feeling alone?

4. Why do you think that before Jesus talked about giving the Holy Spirit he said, “If you love me, obey my commandments.”?

5. How does loving others help us feel less alone or more connected to God?

6. In John 14:27 Jesus tells his disciples that he’s going to leave them with a gift – peace of mind and heart. In some ways these words can feel empty – similar to a person telling you, “I’ll pray for you”, when you are going through a hard time. But what is different about the peace that Jesus gives us? How does it manifest itself?

7. What are some ways that you can remind yourself (and others) that God is with you, especially when you feel lonely or afraid?

8. How does knowing that the Holy Spirit is always with us change the way we live and make decisions each day?

1.      Would you rather be in a completely silent room or have a little bit of noise? 

2.      Has someone ever tried to fool you by pretending to be someone else? What made you realize that it was a trick/scam?

3.      There are many voices in this world competing for our attention. What are some examples of those “voices” and how can we tell which ones to listen to?

4.      AI can imitate voices and trick people. What are some ways spiritual imitations try to copy or distort God’s voice today?

5.      Read 1 John 4:1-3. How can reading and studying the Bible help us recognize when something doesn’t line up with God’s message? What does it mean to “test the spirits”?

6.      How has John 10:10 been twisted by false prophets today?

7.      What does it mean that Jesus is the Good Shepherd?

 

September 21st, 2025 - John 4:19-26 - What is Worship?

Discussion Questions

1. What’s one place or activity that makes you feel close to God? 

2. Many Christians think of worship as what we do when we sing songs before the message. This is an incomplete view of what worship is. Why is it problematic to think (and talk) about worship involving only music?

3. What does it mean when worship is defined as “saying, ‘yes’, to God”?

4. What is the problem when we view the worship service as a time to receive rather than to give?

5. What does it mean to worship in spirit and in truth?

6. What is the difference between asking the question “What was there about the worship service today that you think God didn’t like?” versus “What did you like about the worship service?”

7. What is the danger of making worship about our preferences instead of God’s glory?

8. How does worship help us keep God at the center of our lives?

Discussion Questions – John 4:1-15 – Are You Thirsty?

1. When you are thirsty what do you want to drink? What makes it satisfying?

2. Jesus risked his reputation to talk to the Samaritan woman with a bad reputation. What does that teach us about how God values people?

3. The woman was surprised that Jesus spoke to her. Have you ever been surprised by the way God reached you or someone you know?

4. In the passage, Jesus offers “living water.” What do you think that means in your own words?

5. Jeremiah 2:13 says God’s people turned away from the fountain of living water to dig “cracked cisterns.” What are some things people chase after today that never truly satisfy?

6. How can something good like spending time with family or working hard become unhealthy (bad)?

7. Jesus’ living water leads to eternal life. How does that promise encourage you in your daily struggles or longings?

8. Who in your life is “thirsty”? How can you point them toward Jesus’ living water?

September 7th, 2025 - 2 Timothy 3:14-4:4 - Treasure

1.     What is one of your favorite treasures? Why does it have value to you?

2.     The sermon compared the Bible to a “treasure.” In what ways have you experienced the Bible as something valuable in your own life?

3.     2 Timothy 3:15 says the Scriptures make us “wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” What does this mean to you personally? 

4.     The passage reminds us that all Scripture is God-breathed. How does believing this affect the way we read and trust the Bible?

5.     The sermon described the Bible as a “map” for our lives. Can you share a time when the Bible gave you direction or clarity in a decision?

6.     Why do you think it can sometimes be difficult to stay consistent in reading the Bible, even though we know it is important to do and is beneficial for us?

7.     Verse 4:2 says to “preach the Word.” How can ordinary Christians—not just pastors—share God’s Word with others?

8.     The sermon acknowledged that some parts of the Bible challenge us or confront our sin. How do you personally respond when Scripture points out something uncomfortable or difficult? 

9.     We don’t read the Bible because we have to, but because it’s a gift from God. How might that perspective change the way you approach daily Bible reading?
