Colossians 3:1-11 – Set your minds on things that are above

What is the longest time it’s taken you to work on a project?

What are you fanatical about?

What does it mean to seek the things that are above? To set your minds on things that are above?

Does that mean it’s wrong to think about or spend time doing things like reading books, watching TV, playing sports, playing games, working on crafts, etc.? Why or why not?

There is nothing that is truly “secular” and outside of our relationship with God. I believe this means we can spend time on things that we enjoy like reading books, playing games, and all the things listed above. But how do we balance our activities? How does the first commandment (You shall have no other gods before me) help us understand how to balance our priorities and time?

What does it mean to “put to death what is earthly in you” (Colossians 3:5)?

As Christians our old sinful nature has been put to death with Christ and we have been given a new self, a new life. What does it mean that the new left is “being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator (Colossians 3:10)?

What hope is there that Christ is all and in all? That he has broken all barriers and unites all people whatever their culture, race, or nationality.
